KENT COUNTY, Mich. — Two 17-year-olds were injured — one of them critically — after the car they were in was unable to avoid a pickup truck that had stopped to help someone out of a ditch.
It happened late New Year’s Eve on 36th Street Southeast. Police say a Ford Taurus with four teenagers inside tried to avoid the pickup, but there was a crash. A 17-year-old front seat passenger suffered a broken femur, as well as skull and facial fractures, and is listed in critical condition. A second 17-year-old passenger in the back seat had minor injuries. The 18-year-old driver and a third passenger were not hurt.
All occupants in the Taurus were wearing seat belts. Alcohol was not believed to be a factor in this crash.
