GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — December 2013 in Grand Rapids will officially go down in the record books as one of the snowiest. The seventh snowiest to be exact with 34.7″.

The sixth snowiest December was 34.8″ in 1983, the fifth was 35.4″ in 2009, all the way to the number one spot at 59.2″ set in 2000. Get the complete list here.

Along with the snow has also been an Arctic outbreak of cold air for at least part of the time. Unfortunately, an even colder blast of air is coming in for next Monday and Tuesday as highs struggle to make the double digits with lake-effect snow likely.

Muskegon also broke the top ten list with 39.2″ of snow coming in at number 10. Get more weather at www.fox17online.com/weather.

The attached photo was submitted by photographer Joe Gee of Muskegon…what I would call “frozen in time”. A typical shot with the deep freeze we’ve been in the last several days.
