PASADENA, CA — Michigan State has won the Rose Bowl for the 1st time in 26 years with a 24-20 win over Stanford on Wednesday.

Spartan quarterback Connor Cook threw for a career high 322 yards and 2 touchdowns. Stanford had the ball down 4 with under 2 minutes to play but were stopped on 4th and 1 by Darien Harris and Kyler Elsworth.

Harris and Elsworth split time filling in for the suspended Max Bullough.  “Our coaches said you buy into the system, we’ll win a Rose Bowl, I just bought into the system, my coaches had a lot of faith in me, we came out on top and I couldn’t be happier for this moment” Elsworth said.

“I’ve just taken it 1 game at a time, I never looked ahead.  My goal was just to put the team in the best situation possible, to lead my team and winning just took care of itself, we were just going along with the process an look what happened” Cook said.

Stanford took a 10-0 lead after the 1st quarter, but a 2-yard Jeremy Langford touchdown run pulled the Spartans to within 10-7.  The Cardinal extended the lead when Kevin Anderson intercepted a Cook pass and returned it 40 yards for a touchdown.  Cook led MSU on a touchdown drive before the half, finding Trevon Pendleton on a 2 yard TD pass with 28 seconds to play before halftime.  After Michigan State tied the game with a field goal in the 3rd, Cook hit Tony Lippett on a 25-yard scoring strike to give the Spartans a 24-17 lead with 13:22 to play in the game.
