GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. –A new year brings new resolutions, including the common one of people wanting to lose weight and get healthier.

But sometimes it’s not always easy to keep up with your goals. Nick King owner of Fitness 19 on Leonard in Grand Rapids says in the month of January they sell twice as many memberships as they would any other month a year.

King says many those ‘resolution folks’ stop coming by the summer months.

The first step to keeping your fitness resolution is to set realistic goals.

“You can set small, short-term goals and achieve those, its going to help you reach the larger more long-term goals,” King said.

He says don’t set yourself up for failure and set up a time you plan to work out everyday, then make it a priority in your life.

Something else to remember: don’t expect to see results right away, it will take some time and King says for those newbies don’t feel uncomfortable coming to the gym.

“Anybody that doesn’t feel comfortable in a gym, feeling like they might be judged: it’s a big misconception. For the average person that does visit the gym regularly when anybody comes in that’s new its good for them were happy to see new faces and see people who want to change their lives,” King said.
