EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Rose Bowl champs were greeted by a legion of fans, who braved sub-zero temperatures just to say thanks for the memories the team provided over a victorious season.

Word spread via the official MSU Facebook page to gather outside the football building just across from the stadium on campus at 7:40 p.m. oThursday.

It would be closer to 8:40 when the team would actually pull up in the buses to be greeted by cheers from the crowd.

MSU junior and fullback on the team, Ty Hamilton, said he was surprised at the warm welcome.

“It’s seven degrees out,” he said.  “It shows how faithful the Spartan fans are.”

Jamal Lyles, a freshman who plays defensive end echoed his teammate’s statements.

“I appreciate everyone in Spartan Nation,” he said.  “A great fan base.  They supported us the whole way and we pulled it out for Michigan State.”

Even MSU basketball player Branden Dawson came out to support his fellow athletes as they arrived back on campus.

“It’s good to see all our fans coming out here to support our football team,” he said.

If you didn’t get a chance to make it out to greet the team yourself, another chance might be coming your way.  According to Mark Hollis, the school’s athletic director, a more formal celebration is in the works and could be as soon as next Wednesday.  Stay with FOX 17 for more details.
