010514SNOW3WEST MICHIGAN —  Snow overnight and this morning allowed for 2 to 8 inches to fall across West Michigan and more is on the way. As this potent Winter Storm moves into the Great Lakes snow will continue to be heavy at times and bring additional snow accumulations. We are still on track to see between 6 and 12 inches of snow with locally heavier amounts West of US-131 and South of I-96 tonight. Many areas across West Michigan like New Buffalo and Martin had over 7 inches of snow before the Winter Storm even moved into West Michigan. Many areas can expect an additional 4 to 6 inches before daybreak.

Temperatures have been somewhat slow to fall this afternoon, as arctic air makes its way into Michigan. Temperatures will fall quickly tonight as winds pick up and wind chills fall to 10 to 20 below zero. Wind chills will fall steadily throughout the day Monday to around 20 to 30 below zero. Wind chills of this magnitude become dangerous when people and animals are left exposed to the elements. If you do need to venture out make sure you take extra precautions to prevent frostbite and hypothermia.

Temperatures are expected to be so cold that many schools are already calling off for Monday so be sure to stay tuned to FOX17 for the most up to date closings and delays. We will continue to keep you updated with team coverage on FOX17 News, FOX17online.com and Facebook/Twitter.
