Most of Michigan has Above Normal Snowfall

MICHIGAN — (FOX 17) — We are in the midst of an “Old-Fashioned Michigan Winter,” with cold temperatures and snow. A check of snowfall totals so far shows that most of the state is well above normal with snowfall this season.

In Grand Rapids, the total as of Thursday evening is 52.9 inches, which is 17.2 inches above normal.  Amazingly, at this point last winter, there was just 9.4 inches.  In Muskegon, the total so far is 62.3 inches, which is 19.1 inches above normal.  The total at this point last winter was just 8.7 inches.

Here are some totals from across the rest of Michigan and the departure from normal:

  • Lansing:  31.8″,  10.9″ above normal
  • Detroit:  38.5″,  23.6″ above normal
  • Flint:  38.5″,  20.0″ above normal

Meanwhile, northern Lower Michigan and the U.P. are near or below normal.  In Alpena, the total of 31.0 inches is 2.5″ below normal.  Marquette’s total of 74.5 inches is 11 inches below normal, and at Sault St. Marie, the total of 60.9 inches is just 1.2 inches above normal.
