KALAMAZOO, Mich. — To protect patients from the growing prevalence of the flu, especially HINI influenza, Borgess Health has begun limiting patients’ visitors effective today.

Borgess visitors must now be 12 years of age and older — except brothers and sisters. Visitors to Borgess critical care units and the birthing center visitors are now reserved for immediate family members.

Only two visitors per patient will be allowed to visit patients in the Borgess Emergency and Trauma Center.

“The incidence of the flu is not yet severe but it is growing,” said David Davenport, medical director of Borgess Infection Prevention. “We are taking these temporary steps to reduce patient exposure to the flu. Of course we ask that anyone with a fever or flu-like symptoms refrain from visiting patients and we can certainly supply a mask to anyone uncertain of their current health status.”
