KABUL, Afghanistan — A Hamtramck woman is one of 21 people killed in a Taliban bombing attack in Kabul, Afghanistan, according to FOX 2 in Detroit.

Basra Hassan was a nutrition specialist for UNICEF who graduated with a Master’s Degree from Eastern Michigan University.   UNICEF confirmed to FOX 2 that she was killed Friday night when a Taliban bomber blew himself up outside a restaurant.   Gunmen also opened fire inside the restaurant.

“These sorts of attacks which focus, and which target civilian locations are unacceptable,” Ari Gaitanis, a United Nations spokesperson in Afghanistan, told FOX 2. “We call for their immediate halt. We emphasize these can be described and they are, gross violations of international humanitarian law.”
