Stuck Kayakers Rescued from Kalamazoo River

GALESBURG, Mich. — Eleven kayakers got stuck on the Kalamazoo River near Fort Custer Drive in Galesburg Sunday.

The Galesburg Fire Department said they responded to the scene at about 2 p.m.  The kayaks were stuck in ice,  but everyone was safely pulled from the river and there were no injuries.

Comstock Township rescue crews were also called to assist at the scene.

    There were actually only 4 kayaks and 4 boats. We’ve done this every year, in the winter, for 13 years. We were right next to the shore when we were stuck, not in the middle of the river or anything crazy. We actually started Friday morning, camped for 2 nights and were less than a mile from the end of the trip when the river froze up
