consumer-alert-velveeta-web-gfxWASHINGTON, D.C. — Approximately 1.77 million pounds of shelf-stable pasta and ground beef products are being recalled because of mis-branding and the presence of undeclared allergens.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced the recall on Sunday.

The products consist of Kraft Velveeta Cheesy Skillets SINGLES — ULTIMATE CHEESEBURGER MAC.  They are formulated with hydrolyzed soy protein and dried soy sauce, both known allergens that are not declared on some labels.  No other Kraft or Velveeta products are affected by this recall.

The problem was discovered during a recent routine quality check conducted by the company, which then contacted FSIS. The company believes the problem occurred when a label supplier inadvertently mixed labels with incorrect ingredient lines with labels containing correct ingredient information.

FSIS and the company have received no reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products.
