Guns Found In A Vehicle After Kalamazoo Traffic Stop

kzoopolicestockKALAMAZOO, Mich- Four people were arrested early Sunday morning after a traffic stop in Kalamazoo, which turned up three handguns.

According to the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety, officers reported to the 1200 block of Lake Street on the report of an assault that just took place. When officers got on scene, they learned that a male suspect assaulted a a female after an argument and fired one shot into the air with a hand gun. After firing that one shot the suspect fled the scene in a 2005 dark colored Dodge Magnum.

Eight minutes later officers with Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety spotted the suspect’s vehicle travelling northbound on Riverview Dr. near E. Michigan. The vehicle was then stopped in the 600 block of Gull Road. After the occupants of the vehicle were detained, the was searched and officers recovered three handguns; 9 mm Highpoint, which was reported stolen in Kalamazoo Township, .45 Caliber Ruger, and a .22 Caliber Jennings.

Four men were arrested. The main suspect, a 20-year-old man from Kalamazoo, was arrested on weapons charges and Assault and Battery charges. A 14-year-old man was arrested on a curfew violation. A 21-year-old Kalamazoo resident, was arrested of the charge of Carrying a Concealed Weapon and Possession of Marijuana and the last man, a 23 year- old male Kalamazoo Resident, was arrested on outstanding warrants.
