GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.- Several crashes, slide offs and stuck cars as the fierce and snowy West Michigan roads take their toll, Monday.
“I haven’t seen a winter like this in a decade,” Anna Rayburn said.
Michigan State Police Trooper Parker Surbrook says even with school being cancelled, he was consumed by crashes throughout his 12 hour shift.
“Stay at home if you can. It’s just not safe for people to be out on the roads like this,” Surbrook said.
Even first responders aren’t immune to the dangers of the conditions. Trooper Brian Komm’s police cruiser was rear-ended while he was responding to a crash.
Trooper Komm only suffered minor injuries but it serves as a reminder for other officers.
“You listen to the tires screeching up or any noise that’s out of the ordinary coming behind you,” Surbrook said.
If you do slide off the road, he warns you to stay in your car and call 911 unless you’re absolutely sure you only need a tow truck.
But, as the snow continues falling and the roads stay slick most municipalities and law enforcement suggest you only leave home when it’s absolutely necessary.
