FENNVILLE, Mich. — A police standoff with a barricaded individual has ended with the suspect’s arrest on Wednesday morning.

Multiple police agencies, including a bomb squad, Michigan State Police, and fire crews, surrounded a home near Fennville for hours late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

Troopers described it as a barricade situation that started unfolding at Johnson Village Mobile Home Park at around 7:00 p.m. Tuesday.  MSP says it began as an assault with a handgun, and the man accused in the assault refused to exit the mobile home. The ensuing police standoff lasted well into the morning.  A bomb squad was called in to assist, and gas was used at one point to try and get the man to come out.

Finally, at around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, the suspect came out with no further incident.  He was arrested, and is expected to be arraigned later on Wednesday.

FOX 17’s Nicole DiDonato spoke to a man at the scene who claimed to be friends with a person inside the mobile home.  He said his friend, who refused to come out of the home, is a war veteran from New York.  He moved to Michigan last August to take care of a sick uncle.  The man also said his friend is going through a divorce and has been having a hard time dealing with it lately.
