Snyder speakingLANSING, Mich. — Gov. Rick Snyder and governors from six other Midwestern states are asking President Obama for assistance with this winter’s propane shortage.

In a formal letter asking for help, the governors ask that the Obama administration look at regulatory waivers that would increase the supply of propane in the affected states.

They request a temporary waiver of weight limits on the interstate highway system to help fill “critical gaps” between supply and demand, according to a release.

The letter was signed by Snyder as well as Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton, Ohio Gov. John Kasich, Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad and Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback.

Snyder issued an executive order Jan. 31 extending Michigan’s energy emergency until Feb. 11.  The order allows motor carriers and drivers carrying propane on Michigan highways to be exempt from state and federal hours-of-service regulations.
