The dog named “Foxy” was rescued by a woman who heard the puppy crying in the trash can near her home on Monday.  The woman cared for the puppy until contacting Kent County Animal Control today.

“We noticed right away that the dog had issues with her left eye,” said Dr. Laurie Wright, Kent County Animal Shelter Veterinarian in a press release.  “It appears she can see, but we could not tell how bad the damage to her eye was, and I knew it was something that needed a specialist’s attention.”

Dr. Wright contacted Dr. Cassandra Bliss of BluePearl Veterinary Partners, a board certified ophthalmologist who has assisted the Kent County Animal Shelter with injured or impaired pets.

Doctors are hopeful the eye can be repaired, but it may be necessary to remove it entirely.  A procedure is scheduled for Wednesday to repair “Foxy’s” eye.  She’ll be released back to the shelter after that, available for adoption as quickly as possible.

Information on adopting pets through the Kent County Animal Shelter is available at http://www.icpawz.com Adoptions are $50, plus $12 for a one-year license for dogs, and just $5 for cats.
