VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. (Feb. 13, 2014) — FOX 17 obtained a copy of the letter written by Van Buren County commissioners to Sheriff Dale Gribler. He’s accused of misusing taxpayer dollars.

He’s accused of buying several suits, shirts, and ties for more than $1,300 and allegedly used money from the “office equipment” allowance to do so. One suit was allegedly bought for his son.

He’s also accused of spending more than $1,300 on electronics at ABC Warehouse with government funds. A state police investigation revealed that his son was the salesman. Commissioners said this violates “county purchasing policy” and buying directly from his son presents “a conflict of interest.”

FOX 17 sat down with two county commissioners on the matter.

We also reached out to the sheriff. Sheriff Gribler’s attorney called us back and said due process has taken place. He said his client continues to be wrongly accused by commissioners. Cass County prosecutor Victor Fitz cleared Gribler of wrongdoing. Fitz reportedly said “no criminal intent” was found just “bad judgement.” Gribler’s attorney added, “There was no misappropriation of funds.”
