GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (Feb. 13, 2014) — Luke Glendening would like to continue to skate with the Grand Rapids Griffins during the NHL’s Olympic Break. He’s not allowed to though.

Glendening has played 33 games with the Detroit Red Wings this season and that has earned him a required break from hockey during the Olympics. As part of the collective bargaining agreement between NHL and the NHL Players Association, Glendening is not allowed to play or practice for the Grand Rapids Griffins until after the NHL returns from its Olympic break.

For the time being, the 24-year old is back in his native Grand Rapids. He’s already been skating with the University of Michigan, Davenport University, Forest Hills Central and East Grand Rapids hockey programs.

Glendening spoke with FOX 17 today about his Olympic Break skating program and his time in the NHL. Glendening admits that he’s gotten some light-hearted ribbing from West Michigan friends about his lack of a NHL goal. He also explained how he’s adjusted his playing style in hopes of staying with the Detroit Red Wings.
