fire picGRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Fire investigators in Grand Rapids are trying to determine what caused a fire in a northeast side home which left a family dog dead.

The fire broke out Saturday evening in Grand Rapids.  The homeowner told FOX 17 she received a call from a neighbor that their home was on fire.  When they returned to the house, they were told their chocolate lab had passed away.

The Grand Rapids Fire Department said a contractor had worked on the home earlier in the day.  The contractor used a blow torch to melt ice on the foundation.  Investigators are trying to determine if that played a role in the fire.

The home is owned by WWMT News Channel 3 reporters.

The home sustained extensive damage.

In other words: just write "X and Y, who are married." You don't need the "both of whom" because that creates needless ambiguity. You need to hire people who can write.

I was wondering the same thing. Are they married to other people and have a house in Grand Rapids separate from their spouses? Very poor wording.

  • need some compassion

the point is a contractor was using a torch and they lost there dog, lack of compassion worried about words and spelling.
Sorry for the loss of your lab and damage to your home.

I don't think it's that difficult to figure out. They have television names but for clarification, their "married to each other" was noted in the report for people that are unaware of their status. But as "need some compassion" put it, who cares? Their house burned and a dog died because of a contractor that I hope will be named so other people can take this into consideration if they are thinking about home repair.

Why don't they post the TV news people's names–is there some kind of "professional courtesy" or cover-up? They don't hesitate to print the names of police officers and other people whenever they can–why not when it is one of "their own"??
