MSU Student Dies After Being Found On I-69

CLINTON COUNTY, Mich. – A homicide investigation is underway outside of Lansing after a Michigan State University student was found along I-69.

The Bath Charter Township Police Department said the body was found at 10:23pm Saturday on I-69 at the East Lansing exit.  The person was identified as 19-year-old Dustyn Louis Frolka of Owosso.  Owosso is a community in Shiawassee County between Lansing and Flint.

Investigators said a person called 911 after seeing a person lying in the roadway.  When emergency crews arrived, the teen was found partially clothed.

“The subject was in respiratory distress and prior to the law enforcement arriving on scene, first aid was started by a passing motorist who happened to be a nurse,” stated a news release from Bath Charter Township Police.

The young man was transported to Sparrow Hospital in Lansing where he was pronounced dead.  A cause of death has not been determined.

Police told FOX 17 News the case is being treated as a homicide. Investigators used the victim’s fingerprints to identify him.

Michigan State University spokesperson Kent Cassella said, “Michigan State University has been informed of the death of 19-year-old student Dustyn Louis Frolka of Owosso, Mich., who died Feb. 15 after being found in Bath Township. The thoughts and prayers of the MSU community are with his family and friends.” He said, “MSU’s Office of Student Affairs and Services is reaching out to the Frolka family to provide support. MSU police are cooperating with the Bath Township Police Department, who is leading the investigation.”
