GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (Feb. 18, 2014) — Mariano Santoyo, 15,  said that he started helping push stuck cars out of kindness, but now his neighbors are paying up after being pushed out.

“There was a lady stuck and then I was walking away and she said come here, and then I was like okay. Then she handed me $20. Then from there, it went from $20’s to $10’s,” said Santoyo.

Multiple neighbors got stuck on Tuesday afternoon while FOX 17 was there. Neighbors said that the 2000 block of Stafford Avenue in southwest Grand Rapids has only been plowed a few times the entire winter.

“This is where we see the most stuck cars early in the morning at about four or five o’clock people are trying to go to work. We hear tires just spinning and spinning. People can’t get up the hill, so now they are all parking up here and it’s harder for others to get out of the driveway. So, they are backing into snow banks,” said resident Jamie Santoyo.

Multiple residents stood in the snow covered street helping push out cars. Neighbors said this is the worst the stretch of roadway has been in decades.
