EAST GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (Feb. 21, 2014) – Two cars were destroyed after falling ice spawned a fire in East Grand Rapids.
The fire department said Thursday evening two vehicles were parked in a driveway on Gladstone when ice slide off a home, then into electrical lines. The line was live and attached to a utility pole when it crashed down on the cars, setting them on fire, said a fire official.
Consumers Energy was called to the scene to shut off electricity in the area; however, the fire department had to wait for utility crews to arrive to begin their work. The fire department said the wind actually helped the situation because it kept the flames from spreading into the direction of the homes.
Both vehicles are considered a total loss. Nobody was hurt.
