dogsFRUITLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (Feb. 25, 2014) — The two dead dogs found dumped near McMillan Elementary School in Muskegon County did not die of natural causes, a preliminary veterinarian examination revealed.

Investigators are not sharing the exact cause of death because they said it would interfere with the investigation, according to Muskegon County Sheriff’s Department.

Officials did say that the dogs died in an inhumane way, and that there were clear signs that they had fought multiple times with other dogs.  They would not say specifically whether the dogs were injured during organized dog fighting.

It was also revealed that the dogs are a pit bull mix.  Animal control officials on the scene Monday initially speculated that the dogs were boxers.

The dead dogs were discovered Sunday by Joe and Gail Weaver while they were out for a walk.

“I didn’t want the kids to come Monday morning and see dead animals on the way to school,” Joe told FOX 17.
