GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (Feb. 26, 2014)– A Grand Rapids woman and her grandmother tell FOX 17 that they received the puppy they called “Leftie” from a family member who told them the dog only had a few weeks to live.

“Then when she got here, she was running around playing and stuff, and I was like I mind as well give her up because we couldn’t keep her,” said Coleman.

Coleman’s grandmother, Frankie Quincy said after learning about the pricey vet fee to fix the puppy’s eye, she decided they couldn’t afford to keep the dog. Also, Quincy didn’t want to take on the responsibility of caring for the pup.

“She wanted the dog, so I was like okay we’ll see, but then the $150 popped in my head, and we couldn’t do it,” said Quincy.

Then, a family friend offered to take her in.

“I said I was going call the dog pound. He said no, I’ll take it and give it to my mother for Valentine’s Day, and so we said okay,” said Quincy.

The two claim the man decided a couple days later he didn’t want the dog, and placed her in the trash outside their apartment.

“We can’t hear no knocking if we back there. Okay, but why would you put him in the trash can? Why wouldn’t you take it back home and bring it when you know we were up?” asked Quincy.

The two claim that if anyone would have asked if they were the dog’s previous owners, they would have said yes, but no one asked.

“The police and everything have been out here. No, we weren’t looking for this,” said Quincy.

The shelter said that they were overwhelmed with applications to adopt the dog following all of the media coverage, and adoptions jumped 20 percent that week because so many people came in and ended up adopting another furry friend.

Ok now blame it on some friend they gave the dog to? She lied about it from the start so whats to say she is telling the truth now? I mean her and her Grand Mother are some awful good liars as they sat on National TV and lied to all of us with straight faces. I dont care how the dog got in the trash they should be charged with injuring an animal.Plus they should be charged with hindering an investigation
