GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (Feb. 27th, 2014) —  A new Kent County Commissioner was sworn in Thursday.

The Board unanimously voted to appoint Mandy Bolter to District Five seat. That area serves Cascade, Lowell and Bowne Townships.

Commissioner Bolter replaces former Kent County Commissioner, Sandi Frost Steensma. She stepped down to focus on her personal business back in January.

Bolter currently serves as the Legislative Director for Representative Peter MacGregor and is no stranger to public service.

“I have 16 years of public service, serving constituents with the legislature and so I  have dealt with everything from unemployment issues to road issues to funding issues so that’s my background is public service and so I thought I could bring that to the county on local levels,” said Commissioner Bolter.

She will be spending her first week making hundreds of phone calls getting to know her constituents and matters important to them.

Commissioner Bolter worked as the West Michigan Liaison to the Michigan Senate Majority Leader from 2006 through 2009. She received her bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Western Michigan University, and completed the Michigan Political Leadership Program through Michigan State University.
