“We have students that start during high school, and we have the more traditional students that start after high school,” Director of Enrollment Ken Moored said. “And we have a lot of moms that come back when their kids are in school now and they are ready to pursue their career.”
“It’s kind of a hidden treasure I think, sometimes, I am a little biased I guess,” Moored went on to say. “The public can come in and get hair services nail services and skin care services, almost like any salon. They can come in and get quite a value or discount because it is a school.” He also pointed out that most services are about half of what you would find at regular salons. Students, who must be at least 17 years of age, go through three to four months of intense training before they even hit Tulip City’s salon floor. Then, nearly two-thirds of the time at the college is spent working with the public.
Classroom time is also very important. When FOX 17 visited, one classroom was full of students learning about human anatomy and bone structure. Down the hall, the intense smell of perming solution lead us to another classroom where students were working intently on giving mannequin heads a perm.
