?????????????????GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — (Mar. 6, 2014) – This year’s headliners may be comedy royalty but it’s the reason behind the big stage and bright lights that makes this comedy festival special.

“Laughfest is such an extension of Gilda’s Club” says Wendy Wigger, President of Gilda’s Club of Grand Rapids and Laughfest.  Wendy says that the club helps others going through their own cancer or grief journey to find their smile and laughter again.

Daryl Mick is a cancer survivor and a three-time Laughfest volunteer. He joined Gilda’s Club for support through his own cancer journey and now that he is cancer-free he gives back to others.

Daryl says his choice to volunteer was an easy one especially now that he is retired: “That’s the reason why I did it, because it’s kind of a scary situation when you have cancer so if you can talk to other people and relate to what they are going through and you don’t have to go through it alone. It’s a family thing, you get your family involved and it’s such a wonderful thing.”

Daryl is one of a few hundred volunteers who work the almost three hundred events that take place all over West Michigan. A majority of those events are free and family friendly and of course all of the proceeds from Laughfest fund Gilda’s Club programs right here in West Michigan.
