A GVSU Legend Loses His Battle With Cancer

BELMONT, Mich. (March 8, 2014)- Jamie Hosford, a legend at Grand Valley State University passed away on Tuesday after his battle with cancer.

He was 58-years-old.

After being a stand-out athlete at Creston High School, he moved on to Grand Valley State University where Hosford earned varsity letters in, football, wrestling, baseball, golf and track. According to the GVSU, Hosford was the first student athlete to earn All-America honors and win an individual National Championship at Grand Valley State University.

Hosford was inducted in the GVSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1987 and the Grand Rapids Sports Hall of Fame in 2011. He was an assistant football coach at Grand Valley State in 1983 and his sons, Tom and Dan, were a part of Grand Valley State’s first-ever football National Championship in 2002.

Hosford worked for the Rockford Public Schools for 25 years before retiring in the summer of 2013.

Jamie Hosford is survived, by his wife, Gloria, and his four children, Dan, Tom, Katie and Kellie.
