WEST MICHIGAN (March 9, 2014) — We’ve certainly had the chance to catch some picturesque sunrises and sunsets the last few days. The attached photo in this story was submitted by Bill Beatty and was taken Sunday morning of the sunrise over Muskegon Lake.

Temperatures are expected to warm well in to the 40s on Monday with a southwest wind and a little sunshine. We should still be around 40 or better Tuesday, but may see a little light rain/snow showers through the afternoon/evening. Our forecast models actually have a larger storm system tracking in to southern Ohio Wednesday morning. It may spread some accumulating snow in to West Michigan Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. Areas south/east of Grand Rapids could see about two to four inches or more (especially from around Battle Creek to Jackson) so make sure to stay up on later forecasts.

Along with the storm passing to our south, winds will increase later Tuesday and continue to be strong on Wednesday. Temperatures will be sharply colder behind the system on Wednesday as daytime highs remain only in the 20s. We may also be flirting with record low temperatures on Thursday morning if skies can clear and winds go light. The record low temp on that date for Grand Rapids is five degrees.

I would expect to gradually turn the table over the next few weeks on Arctic air and snowfall as we get closer to the start of Spring March 20. That said, cold temps and accumulating snow are still possible through most of April, so don’t write-off winter yet. Get the complete West Michigan forecast at www.fox17online.com/weather.
