fire_generic2BRANCH COUNTY, Mich. (March 10, 2014) — Thirty-five horses were killed in a barn fire this weekend in Branch County.

The fire started at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, March 8 at a barn located at 1066 Paul Rd.

The barn is owned by Nathan Baker of Angola, Ind. but the horses belonged to an Amish family, according to Montgomery Fire Chief Brad Freeburn.

Freeburn says an electrical issue may have caused the fire, but it is still under investigation.  A fire marshall is scheduled to inspect the scene on Wednesday.
