KENT COUNTY, Mich. (March 9, 2014) — A 35-year-old inmate at the Kent County Jail was found dead in his cell Sunday.
Tommy Lavar Varnado was discovered lying on the floor of his cell at about 9:30 p.m., according to a press release. He was pronounced dead after attempts to resuscitate him.
Autopsy results indicate that Varnado died of natural causes, according to the Kent County Sheriff’s Department. He had been in jail since Dec. 6, 2013 for a tether violation.
Varnado’s death remains under investigation.
