OTISCO TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A 14-year-old Belding boy was seriously injured Monday after he fell off a sled that was being towed behind a snowmobile.

The accident happened at about 2 p.m. in a field near Ellis Road east of M-91 in Otisco Township, according to a release from the Ionia County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials say when the teen fell from the sled his helmet came off and his head struck the ground.  He was transported by ambulance to a nearby parking lot, where he was then turned over to AeroMed and flown to the hospital.

The man who was driving the snowmobile was not injured.

According to a release, emergency crews were assisted at the scene by several citizens who used their snowmobiles to shuttle responders and equipment to the accident location.

The incident remains under investigation.
