EAST LANSING, Mich (March 21, 2014) —  Muskegon battled foul trouble and poor free throw shooting, but were still able to beat Mt. Pleasant 63-47 in a class A state semifinal game Friday at the Breslin Center.

Joeviair Kennedy scored 11 of his 14 points in the 1st quarter and Will Roberson also added 14.  Muskegon (27-0) built a 19 point halftime lead and would lead by as many as 23 (43-20) in the 3rd quarter.  “We proved that anyone of our starters Mr. Basketball (Deshaun Thrower) and D.D. (Deyonta Davis) and the rest of our players can score and help the team out” Roberson said.

Muskegon made 13 of 25 at the free throw line and had 4 starters commit 4 personal fouls.

“We’ve got other guys that can score, I think tonight was just my night and tomorrow could be somebody else’s” Kennedy said.

Mt. Pleasant got as close as nine (52-43) in the 4th, but the Big Reds made enough free throws to hang on for the win.  Jordan Waire scored 11 and Deyonta Davis had 10 points, 6 rebounds and 6 blocked shots.

This seasons Mr. Basketball award winner Deshaun Thrower battled foul trouble and scored just 9 points but also had 6 rebounds and 5 assists.  “People that usually don’t play big minutes came in and stepped up big so that was a good thing, we can look to our bench and they give us good minutes” Thrower said.

The Big Reds will play Bloomfield Hills tomorrow in the class A state championship game scheduled for noon at the Breslin Center.
