03-05-14 Javonte Higgins in courtGRAND RAPIDS,Mich (April 3,2014) —  Javonte Higgins will spend the rest of his life in prison for the double murder that took the life of a Kentwood couple in 2013.

Higgins was found guilty Back In March for the murder of David and Vivian Bouwman in their home in Kentwood in January of 2013. The couple’s car was later found burning in the parking lot of an apartment complex. Higgins was arrested in Chicago, weeks after the murder.

Judge Mark Trusock gave Higgins two life sentences with no parole. While the sentencing didn’t last longer than 10 minutes, Trusock had a lot to say about Higgins and the case.

“During the course of this trial and today you’ve shown no remorse what-so-ever,” Trusock said. “You are a very dangerous individual, you have no moral compass what-so-ever. You clearly are a very dangerous individual.”

Higgins attorney said they plan to appeal the conviction. Saying, the jury was given added instructions about aiding and abetting and that they returned a verdict within minutes after that instruction was delivered.

The prosecution said the instructions were standard and that they see no grounds for an appeal.
