GREENVILLE, Mich. (April 6, 2014) – The missing Greenville woman, Betty Jane Updike, was found just before 5 A.M. Sunday morning, this according to officials.

Police say a K-9 unit found Betty uninjured 13 miles away from her home, near Lincoln Lake Road and Belding Road. Betty was taken to a local hospital immediately after for precaution. She is reported to be 81-years-old and suffers from dementia.

Family reported Betty missing Saturday, and said she had last been seen near her home around 2 P.M. along the 8000 block of Backus Road near the Glenkerry Golf Course.

Family said Betty told them Sunday morning that she was walking to her daughter Angie’s house and got lost.

Betty’s eldest son, Dan, said he stops by her home every day after work, and when he saw her Friday his mother seemed fine, he noticed nothing unusual. He says it’s routine for his mother to walk throughout the neighborhood collecting things along the way.

“She likes to walk. Sticks and cans and golf balls, anything she can pick up, lug nuts, anything sharp and shiny she gets,” said Dan Updike, Betty’s son.

“She is very interesting. She has a lot of collections and she’s very interested in a lot of different things. She’s a collector,” said Rose Lee Updike, Betty’s daughter-in-law.

The Updike family would like to thank the community and police departments for all of their concern and help finding Betty.
