COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. (April 7, 2013) — Construction crews are working hard to make sure Fifth Third Ballpark is ready to go on opening day.

The Whitecaps season opener will be at 6:35 p.m. on Tuesday. Even though there’s still a lot to be done before the game begins, Mickey Graham, Whitecaps director of marketing said it’s all coming together.

” I’ll tell you what it’s a lot of last minute things happening for sure,” Graham said. “It’s been an interesting two, two and a half months getting this ballpark ready and now people are just putting the finishing touches on.”

Graham said that since that massive fire destroyed a good portion of the park back in January, crews started working overtime, putting in 10 to 12 hour days. The even of opening day was no exception for the transformation that cost more than $1 million.

“They’ve been so passionate about getting it up and running, too. They had April 8th in their minds and they worked really hard to make that happen,” Graham said.

From putting the finishing touches on the souvenir store to completely remodeling a new, more efficient concession stand, Graham said the park is beginning to look a lot like baseball season.

“Just coming out here last week or so it’s actually looking like a ballpark,” Graham said.  “The field’s green, the sky’s, ya know, it’s sunny.  I’m sure tomorrow night once the fireworks go off and everyone leaves the ball park we’ll be putting our feet up and maybe having a beverage.”

Until then, when it comes to making sure everything is in working order for the big day crews we’re even blasting music through the system.

“I can’t believe I’m doing this (interview) to Fat Bottom Girl’s, though,” Graham said.

For those who want to go to the game but haven’t bought a ticket there are still some available. They can be bought at the Whitecaps website or at the door.
