Shenanigans in Hastings Including Vehicle Break-Ins

Hastings-Police-UnitHASTINGS, Mich. (April 7, 2014) — The following news release was sent to FOX 17 from the Hastings Police Department.

OWI 3rd Offense/Domestic Violence

 

On March 25, 2014, Hastings Police responded to the 1400 block of S. Broadway on a reported verbal argument. Upon arrival Hastings Police spoke with the victim, who said that her 41 year old estranged boyfriend, Shane David Kurr, had arrived at her residence to remove his property from her house. The victim advised police that she and Kurr started to argue and that Kurr grabbed her by the face and assaulted her. The victim also informed police that Kurr had backed into her house when backing a U Haul truck into her driveway.  When police spoke with Kurr, he said he arrived to pick up some property, that belonged to him, that there became a verbal argument and the victim then called police. Kurr said there was no physical assault . While speaking with Kurr, Officers could smell an odor of intoxicants from Kurr. Kurr was given a PBT which showed him to have a BAC of .16%. Kurr denied driving the U Haul and informed police another person had driven the U Haul and dropped him off at the residence. Hastings Officer’s spoke with a person who observed Kurr to be driving the U Haul and placed him under arrest for OWI. 

 

Kurr was transported to the Barry County Jail where he was given a breath test which showed him to have a BAC of .16%. Kurr was lodged at the Barry County Jail for domestic violence, OWI 3rd offense and probation violation for consuming alcohol. The report will be forwarded to the Barry County Prosecutors office for possible further charges.

 

 

Filing a false police report arrest

 

On March 28, 2014, Hastings police arrested Abbi Lynn Fair, 27 yrs old of Breckenridge MI, on a two count warrant of filing a false police report. Fair is accused of filing a false report with the Hastings Police Department on March 10, 2014, claiming she was kidnapped and carjacked, in the Lansing area, and driving to Hastings where she woke up in a parking lot after being drugged by her attackers. Fair is currently out on bond.

 

 

Larceny from motor vehicles

 

The Hastings Police Department has taken several reports of larceny from motor vehicles on the north side of the City. All of the vehicles that have been entered, have been left unlocked, and most of the items that have been stolen have been loose change, paper work and CD’s. Hastings Police would like to remind everybody to make sure their vehicles are locked and report any suspicious activity immediately.

 

 

Verbal argument/warrant arrest

 

On April 6, 2014, Hastings Police responded to the 1400 block of E Center Rd to a reported verbal argument. Upon arrival Hastings Police spoke with a female subject who said that she had been arguing with  Michael Wesley Harrington, 40 years old, of Hastings. The  female said that after she called police Harrington took her vehicle and would not return it to her. While Hastings Police were at the house, Harrington called and informed Officers that he would have the car returned within minutes to the residence.  Shortly after the phone conversation, Harrington was located, at a residence close to the one police were at, and placed under arrest for a warrant for his arrest for failing to pay child support. Harrington was lodged at the Barry County Jail and the vehicle was returned to the owner.
