kzoopolicestockKALAMAZOO, Mich. (April 8, 2014) — A 44-year-old man was arrested and is facing charges following a domestic assault and stand-off with police.

Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers responded to an apartment on Keenway Circle just before 9:30 p.m. on Apr. 7 for a report of a domestic assault. A man assaulted a woman, stole her car, and drove away, said police. He returned just after 11 p.m., forced open the door of the apartment, and tried to assault the victim a second time. The woman managed to get out without any injuries.

Just after midnight, public safety officers and deputies from the sheriff’s office found the suspect and the stolen car at a home on N. 24th Street. Because of suicide threats and access to weapons, the Kalamazoo Metropolitan SWAT Team was called in, and, after three hours of negotiations, the suspect surrendered.

He was arrested on charges of home invasion, domestic assault, automobile theft, and parole violation.
