GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (April 9, 2014) — With weather finally starting to feel like spring around West Michigan, it’s time to start thinking about the possibility of severe storms.

While there is no such weather in the current forecast, the National Weather Service and the Michigan Committee for Severe Weather Awareness will be holding a statewide tornado drill Wednesday at 1:00 P.M.

From the National Weather Service:

“As part of Michigan Severe Weather Awareness Week, the NWS Offices that serve Michigan will be conducting their Wednesday Routine Weekly NOAA All-Hazards Weather Radio Test on April 9th at 1pm instead of the regular time between 11am-12pm.

This test at 1pm on April 9th is meant to simulate a tornado warning from the National Weather Service and should be used as an opportunity for all to practice their tornado warning emergency plans.

Severe Weather Awareness Week in Michigan runs from April 6th through April 12th.”
