COMSTOCK PARK, Mich (April 10, 2014) — Detroit Tigers 11th round draft choice Chad Green was brilliant for the West Michigan Whitecaps Thursday afternoon, but the Whitecaps fell to Wisconsin 3-0. Green started on the mound and pitched 7 scoreless innings allowing just 4 hits without walking a batter and striking out 7. Unfortunately the Caps managed just 3 hits and did not score a run against the Timber Rattlers tandem of Tristan Archer (5 IP, 2 H, 3 BB, 4 K) and Barret Astin (4 IP, 1 H, 0 BB, 3 K), Astin got the win. The game was scoreless until the top of the 9th when Wisconsin got 2 runners on with just 1 out against Whitecaps relief pitcher Matt Davenport, who worked a perfect 8th inning, that’s when West Michigan manager Andrew Graham went to his closer Montreal Robertson. Robertson’s 1st pitch to Jose Pena was ripped for a run-scoring double and his 2nd pitch was also ripped for a double by Clint Coulter to score 2 more. The Whitecaps hits were a double from Bennett Pickar in the 3rd, a Brett Harrison single in the 5th and a single from Dominic Ficociello in the 7th. West Michigan did not have a base runner advance past 2nd base. The Whitecaps will continue their homestand Friday night when they welcome the Cedar Rapids Kernels to Fifth Third Ballpark for a 6:35 PM first picth.
