CEDAR SPRINGS, Mich. (April 11, 2014) — A Cedar Springs man admits to stomping and killing a cat in front of neighbors and children that had ran into his home on Monday.

Michael Stackhouse said that he was inside his home with four small children and his two dogs when a neighbor’s cat jumped over a “dog gate” by the front door.

Stackhouse said that his initial intentions were to simply remove the cat from the house, but it didn’t end that way.

“I grabbed with one hand and I yanked it away out from underneath the bed and away from the dogs, and when I did that, it hit the wall or the door jam or something,” said Stackhouse.

“It started twitching. I didn’t mean to hurt it. I was just trying to get it out and away from the dogs, and in the process it got hurt,” said Stackhouse.

Stackhouse said that he then threw the cat out in the road in front of his house. He said that’s when a crowd gathered around the injured cat.

“When you have 15-20 people all around you, and I wasn’t thinking clearly. I wasn’t, and I do feel bad. I did stomp the cat in front of god and everybody,” said Stackhouse.

Cedar Springs police said that children witnessed Stackhouse stomping on the cats head, killing it, and arrested him on Wednesday. He is charged with felony animal cruelty.

“Yes it was my wrongful judgment in stomping that cat. You know, what I’m calling, telling everybody euthanizing,” said Stackhouse.

Stackhouse said that he is facing eight years in prison for the felony charge because of two prior felony convictions, including home invasion and drugs.

The cat belonged to a neighbor at Cedar Spring Estates.
