041214futureWEST MICHIGAN — (Apr. 12, 2014) Temperatures are on the rise today in West Michigan spreading spring fever across the state. But while you are out enjoying the weather and doing some much-needed yard work hold off on planting any sensitive vegetation.

Last year our last frost occurred on May 13th, over a month later than today but on average West Michigan starts to see the last frost around April 29th.

The warm temperatures today may fool many but a significant cold front Monday will bring a slight chance for some snow in some areas. As rain starts to move out early Monday morning a cold front will slide in transitioning light rain into a light rain snow mix. Areas north of I-96 have the greatest potential for light accumulations however most of West Michigan will likely see only light flurries to a dusting on grassy areas.

We will also be monitoring the potential for some stream, river and lake flooding at the beginning of the week in areas along and north of I-96 where significant rain is expected Sunday and Monday. A Flood Watch is in effect from Saturday evening through Monday morning.
