Grand Haven Community Mourns Loss Of Athletic Director

GRAND HAVEN (April 13, 2014)- After a courageous battle with cancer, Grand Haven Area Public Schools Athletic Director, Robin Bye passed away on Saturday. He was 56-years-old.

“Robin was an incredible person, educator and leader in our district,” said Superintendent Keith Konarska in a press release, “It goes without saying that we are devastated by his loss.”

Bye had been with GHAPS for 34 years, serving as an art teacher, basketball coach, driver’s training instructor, assistant athletic director, and most recently as the head athletic director.

He was honored in 2013 with the district’s “Spirit of Grand Haven” award, which is given to an employee who has demonstrated incredible commitment and dedication to GHAPS.

“Robin has been an incredible example to many around our district,” said Grand Haven High School Principal Tracy Wilson, “He was and continues to be an inspiration.”

The crisis team met on Sunday afternoon, and will be available to support staff and students when they return to school on Monday. Everyone in the district is being encouraged to wear purple on Monday in honor of Bye.

Visitation for Bye will be held on Friday, April 18, from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. in the GHHS Auxiliary Gymnasium. The funeral service will be on Saturday, April 19, beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Covenant Life Church.
