GRAND RAPIDS (April 19, 2014) — Do you remember what the weather was like on Easter Sunday 2013? As a multi-tasking TV Meteorologist, it’s hard enough to remember what I did last week let alone the weather last year! That said, the Grand Rapids National Weather Service compiled some data from more than 100-year-old records on the warmest, coldest, wettest, snowiest Easters ever! Here it is for Grand Rapids:
Remember that Easter is a floating holiday…the date changes every year, so we’ll compare the actual holiday from year to year (not the date).
The warmest Easter Sunday occurred on April 18, 1976 when the thermometer reached 82 degrees!
The coldest Easter Sunday occurred on March 24, 1940 with a high temperature of only 21 degrees.
The wettest Easter Sunday happened on April 22, 1973 when we recorded 1.3 inches of rain.
The snowiest Easter Sunday happened on April 4, 1920 with 2.5 inches of snow.
Easter Sunday 2014 will be very much on the pleasant side. We’ll see mostly sunny skies and high temperatures around 70 degrees. More clouds and a chance of showers are possible well north of Grand Rapids, but most of our FOX 17 viewing area will stay dry until Monday when a cold front sweeps in from the north/west and produces a few showers, perhaps a rumble or two of thunder.
