Muskegon Heights Teen Shot While Heading to Basketball Banquet

Muskegon HeightsMUSKEGON HEIGHTS, Mich. (April 23, 2014) — A 17-year-old was shot Wednesday on Rotterdam Avenue near Fifth Street in Muskegon Heights.

Marquis Gresham, a Muskegon Heights junior and varsity basketball player, was shot at approximately 5:30 p.m., and died of his injuries.

A suspect in the shooting has not yet been identified.

Witnesses at the scene told FOX 17 that there was a fight between six or seven people when shots were fired.

Gresham was heading to the team’s basketball banquet at the time of the shooting, according to witnesses.

No other injuries have been reported from this incident.

Muskegon Heights Public School Academy System announced they would be closed Thursday.

The shooting prompted a temporary lock down at nearby Mercy Health Muskegon’s Hackley Campus, according to hospital officials.
