BATTLE CREEK, Mich (April 29, 2014) – Authorities searched a home in Battle Creek today after receiving complaints of possible hoarding and animal neglect at the residence.

A search warrant was obtained for the home on Woodside Drive in Bedford Township after the complaints were filed with the Battle Creek Police Department Animal Control.

Investigating officers say the property owner was cooperative with the search, where approximately 100 cats, 25 dogs, 5 horses, chickens, geese and goats were found.  Officers say none of the animals were in poor health and the conditions the animals were living in didn’t appear to violate state or local law.

No animals were seized or euthanized as a result of the search.

Documents were copied from the home and the investigation continues according to the Battle Creek Police Department.  The Calhoun County Prosecutor’s Office will decide whether or not any charges will be filed once the investigation is completed.

Any concerns related to the investigation should be directed to the Battle Creek Police Department Animal Control at 269-966-3322 or Silent Observer at 269-964-3888.
