(April 29, 2014) — Floyd Mayweather reportedly told the Los Angeles Times’ Sam Farmer that he wants to put “a group of billionaires” together and buy the L.A. Clippers.

Mayweather’s statements follow the NBA’s Tuesday announcement that Clippers owner Donald Sterling would be banned for life and fined $2.5 million after racist comments he made were recorded by his then-girlfriend.

According to Bleacher Report, Mayweather would not have the financial capital to purchase the team by himself, even with a Showtime deal reportedly worth $200 million.

Forbes currently values the Clippers at $575 million, but a Yahoo! Sports reporter estimates bidding could reach over $1 billion.

mayweatherMayweather is currently preparing to take on Marcos Maidana May 3 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
