Hit And Run Crash In Cass County Sends Three People To The Hospital

PENN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (May 4, 2014)- Three people were taken to the hospital after a hit and run crash in Cass County, Sunday afternoon.

According to the Cass County Sheriff’s Department, A Jeep driven by 49-year-old Delbert Raeder from Elkhart, Indiana was travelling east on M-60 when a “newer” dark colored pickup truck came up behind the Jeep at a high rate of speed and rear ended the Jeep. The Jeep was pushed off the road into a front deck of a house and then a tree.

Raeder was injured in the crash and had to be taken to a Three Rivers hospital. The front seat passenger of the Jeep, 49-year-old Carla Moore from Elkhart, Indiana had to extricated from the vehicle and was also taken to a Three Rivers Hospital. The back seat passenger 54-year-old David Raeder also from Elkhart, Indiana sustained serious injuries and had to be air lifted via Med Flight to Memorial Hospital in South Bend. He is listed in serious condition. Delbert Raeder and Carla Moore are listed in stable condition.

The “newer” dark colored pick up truck did sustain some front end damage and was leaking fluids. This vehicle fled the scene and has yet to be located by sheriff deputies.

Deputies say that seat belts were not used by the passengers and alcohol is believed to be a factor in this crash.
