IONIA COUNTY, Mich. (May 4, 2014) — Michigan State Police said a male suspect is dead Sunday after leading troopers and deputies on a chase both by vehicle and on foot in Ionia County.

At 5:46 p.m., the Ionia Department of Public Safety said the suspect was in a field near Hubell Road, west of M-66.

Police say the suspect fired at them with a shotgun.  Just before 6 p.m. they reported that more shots had been fired and that the suspect was down.

Ionia Public Safety said no officers were injured.  The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the department’s Facebook page, the chase began just before 5 p.m. with the suspect in a truck heading north on M-66 north of Ionia.

The suspect then switched directions and headed south on M-66 near Long Lake, according to officials.  After turning west on Tingley, he hit stop sticks placed by Michigan State Police and took off on foot armed with a shotgun.

After fleeing through a field north of Tingley, public safety officials said they were tracking the suspect  in the area of Meade Road near Hoppough.  Minutes later they reported the suspect’s location in the field near Hubell Road and M-66.

Police said the suspect was wanted for domestic violence.  No other details have been released.
