GRAND RAPIDS, Mich (May 6, 2014) – Voters in Grand Rapids said ‘yes’ Tuesday to a tax that will be used to repair roads and sidewalks.
The final vote was 12,068 to 6,123.
A charter amendment was also approved that would shift the cost burden of sidewalk repairs from homeowners to the city.
The charter amendment passed 12,978 to 6,162.
The tax issue made headlines after a legal challenge from the Grand Rapids Taxpayers Association, which claimed the city violated election law by not certifying the proposals to the county clerk by a Feb. 25 deadline.
